DISCOVER........lots of ways to get involved
Getting involved
If the idea of credit unions appeals to you, there are a number of ways that you can become involved.
Become a member
You are more than just a number when you join a credit union – you are a member and co-owner of the business. We encourage members to become involved in the democratic process by attending Annual General Meetings held each spring.
Helping us to spread the word
We have found over the years that one of the best ways to spread the news of how good being a member of a credit union can be is by word of mouth. Many of our members have joined as a result of hearing from family, friends or work colleagues how saving regularly and borrowing from Discovery Credit Union has increased their financial security and improved their financial well being. If you believe Discovery Credit Union has made a difference to your life, why not tell others so they can also enjoy the benefits of membership.
Become a volunteer
Even a credit union that employs staff needs additional support from volunteers to help deliver services to its members. Volunteers play a vital role in our organisation. Members of the community have a wealth of knowledge and experience that can help us serve our members and very importantly help us to run the organisation. All we ask is for you to commit to offering the credit union some of your time and enthusiam each week for free. Reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
If the idea of volunteering appeals to you, there are a variety of activities you can get involved in to help us achieve our aims including general office administration, bank reconciliations, cashier/telling duties, assisting at local collection points out in the community, promoting the credit union to new members at exhibitions or events through to producing marketing leaflets and newsletters.
We would also welcome enquiries from people interested in sitting on our Board of Directors.
Over the last twelve months we have been working very closely with the Dundee Volunteer Centre and we hope to start work on acheiving the Volunteer Friendly Award scheme very soon.
People with all sorts of skills can contribute to the running of Discovery Credit Union - that could be you!
