DISCOVER......The best decision to take for your money

Now that you have heard all about what we have to offer, why not become a member and a co-owner of Discovery Credit Union. We welcome applications from anyone who meets our membership criteria.

Who can join?
Membership is open to individuals who either live, work, volunteer or to go school/college/university in our membership area which is the local authority area of the City of Dundee. Becoming a member also entitles your family living at the same address to become a member. So, for example, if you have joined because you work in the City of Dundee but live outside Dundee, members of your household are welcome to join.

How to Join
You will need to complete and sign a membership application form. Visit our Forms page to download and print off an application form. By law we require your signature so unfortunately we cannot accept online applications.

You will also need to provide:

  • - Two forms of acceptable ID. First document to prove your name and address and the second document to prove name and either address or date of birth
  • - Initial joining fee of £2.50 (we can arrange to collect this from your first deposit)
  • - Minimum initial £1.00 share deposit.

See below for a list of acceptable ID documents.

Where to join
You can apply to join by visiting our Main Office or by visiting one of our local collections points - see below or our Contact us page for locations and opening times of collection points. If you are joining through one of our Employer Partners, we may have made special arrangements with your employer to speed up the joining process.

Annual Membership Fee
To help us meet the running costs of your credit union, we charge an annual membership fee which is due on 1st October each year. The fee with effect from 1st October 2011 is £3.50 and will be automatically collected from your savings (share) account soon after the due date. If you do not have enough savings in your account on the day we collect the fees, we reserve the right to try and collect it again within three months of the due date.

Annual Statements
We will send you a statement of your savings (share) account and any loan accounts you hold at least once a year, usually around the time of our AGM. We are currently working on an online balance checking facility which will give members a password protected way of viewing share and loan account balances at any hour of the day. We hope to be able to bring you news of this new service later in 2011. You are always welcome to request a statement of your savings and/or loan account at any time - please do not hesitate to contact us. We are also happy to check your balance(s) over the phone.

A quick reminder:

  • signed application form
  • two forms of acceptable ID (original documents)
  • £2.50 joining fee (this may be deducted from your first regular deposit)
  • At least a £1 initial share deposit

What if I join and then move to an address outside Dundee?
Once you become a member but then have a change in your circumstances, for example you move home to live outside Dundee, don't worry, you may still be able to keep your membership going. Please keep us informed (in writing) if you do move address so we can keep our records up to date.

What if I change jobs and no longer work in the city? If you become a member because you work or volunteer in Dundee and then your job takes you outside the city or you change to a different job in a different area, don't worry, you may still be able to keep your membership going. Please keep us informed (in writing) if you move to a different job/employer so we can keep our records up to date.

Can I join more than one credit union?
Yes. There are no restrictions on how many credit unions you can join as long as you meet their membership criteria.
